A survey on the transit network design and frequency setting problem

Appropriate public transport systems are crucial in modern cities. Given the high costs that they represent and impact have on people’s lives, effective tools required to support their design. With this mind, Transit Network Design problem (TNDP) Frequency Setting (TNDFSP) been extensively studied domain of Operations Research. However, due complexity these problems, multiple simplifications typically made when modelling designing solution algorithms. Therefore, still no optimization techniques available address problems practice. Moreover, different studies versions problem, with varying assumptions constraints, complicating comparison results or approaches. This paper presents an extensive survey addressing TNDP TNDFSP. It discusses assumptions, objectives, approaches testing instances considered literature. Furthermore, a detailed analysis is done regarding case for variants passenger assignment subproblem applied within TNDFSP discussed. The shows research has problems. it also identified significant gap exists between theory practice, even studies.
